Employment seminar - Talking 'bout [their] generation (5 October 2011)

06 October 2011

The generational differences in our workplaces can cause conflict within working relationships, lower productivity, and increase staff turnover.  More seasoned staff can become frustrated by a seemingly over-confident younger generation.  Younger staff can become disengaged with hierarchal structures and systems.  Those in the middle can become frustrated with everyone!

'Gen-Y' (born c. 1980-1994) represent nearly a quarter of the world’s population and will dominate the workforce for the next sixty years.  Employers need to know how to work successfully with every generation, and how to keep pace with constant changes in communication technology.

The session covered

  • What makes each generation tick?
  • How can organisations better support Gen Y to make an effective transition into the workplace and work effectively with employees of all ages?
  • How can organisations grow their understanding of different work ethics and expectations?
  • What can organisations do to leverage the potential of the multi-generational workplace?
  • What rights does an employer have to delve into personal emails and social media sites, such as facebook, when recruiting or disciplining employees?
