2010 Buddle Findlay Negotiation Competition won by Waikato
The national final of the Buddle Findlay Negotiation Competition was held at the Dunedin High Court on Saturday 4 September 2010. The judges for the final were Buddle Findlay partners Michael Tinkler and Dominic Lundon, and Otago Commerce Professor Ian McAndrew. The University of Waikato team of Ben Gilbert and Andrew Cameron were the winners.
Winner Andrew Cameron said of the event: "Buddle Findlay has to be commended for sponsorship of the event, which I think shows they are passionate about supporting and improving the 'emerging' law fraternity".
The winners were announced at the New Zealand Law Students' Association conference dinner at Larnach Castle.
Ben and Andrew will go on to compete at the international negotiation competition.
On Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 September a preliminary "round robin" style competition determined which 2 teams progressed through to the grand final on Saturday.
In the preliminary rounds, teams of 2 competed from 5 universities: Ben Gilbert and Andrew Cameron (Waikato), Chris Jenkins and Alison Dunn (Auckland), Stewart Dalley and Richard Kahn (Canterbury), Nigel Smith and Sarah Wilson (Victoria) and Luke Barrington and Olly Hornbrook (Otago). The preliminary rounds were judged by Buddle Findlay partners Rachel Dunningham and Mark Odlin, together with guest judges from the legal profession in Dunedin.
