Government releases implementation guides for National Policy Statements (NPS) for renewable electricity generation and for freshwater management

Today (Tuesday 15 November 2011), Environment Minister Nick Smith issued implementation guides for the government’s two latest national policy statements for renewable electricity generation and freshwater management.

NPS for Renewable Electricity Generation 2011

This guide provides local authorities with direction on implementing the NPS, focusing particularly on regional and district policy and plan making. It aims to help resource management decision-makers and relevant stakeholders understand the policy intent of the NPS.

NPS for Freshwater Management 2011

This guide provides local authorities with commentary on the NPS and provides considerations for local authorities in responding to, and giving effect to the NPS. It is designed to provide background information and commentary on the intent of the NPS, and to assist local authorities in considering how the key messages, concepts and directions should be implemented.
