A patent attorney and a barrister and solicitor, John is a specialist intellectual property lawyer with extensive experience both in New Zealand and overseas.
John's practice covers the development and establishment of intellectual property rights, and the related tasks of management, exploitation and enforcement. He is experienced in patent, registered trade mark, fair trading, passing off and copyright litigation.
John manages and protects the international portfolios of a range of New Zealand businesses and is responsible for the New Zealand portfolios of a number of overseas based businesses.
His clients come from a broad range of business areas including the public sector, banking, insurance, finance, education, tourism, pharmacy, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, information and communications technology, entertainment and the wine industry.

John is a member of the New Zealand Law Society Intellectual Property Committee, Vice President of the New Zealand Group of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), an International Councillor of the APAA, an Associate Member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), a Panelist on INTA's Panel of International Neutrals (INTA’s international panel of mediators for trade mark disputes), a member of INTA’s Geographical Indications Committee, a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys (FNZIPA), a member of Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ), and an overseas member of the Hong Kong Institute of Trade Mark Practitioners (HKITMP).
