Neil Russ

Neil leads Buddle Findlay's tax practice.  He specialises in corporate and international tax issues, as well as structured transactions.  In addition to his tax expertise Neil has a multi-jurisdictional background in banking and capital markets transactions.

Neil is currently advising a number of New Zealand and offshore clients with the tax aspects of investment transactions and asset disposals.  He advises a number of the firm’s clients with the development of new business structures and products, and regularly assists clients with tax investigations, binding and non-binding ruling applications and tax risk reviews.  Clients highlight his ability to remain calm under pressure and "ensure we are covered at all times, both now and in the future" - Chambers and Partners.  Neil is involved in tax policy, and is frequently dealing with Inland Revenue and treasury officials on proposed law changes.

Neil is a member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association Jurisdictional Council Member, International Fiscal Association, LawAsia, Taxation Institute of Australia and the New Zealand Law Society's Taxation Committee.  He is listed as a leading tax practitioner in Chambers Global, and one of only 3 New Zealand individuals listed in the Tax Directors' Handbook 2011.

When not in the office, Neil enjoys spending time with his family, and triathlon.  He has twice competed at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
