Nick is a member of our public law and commercial teams.  He advises corporates, Crown entities, statutory boards, producer boards and government departments on legislative change, public law and regulatory obligations, and commercial law.

Nick has advised clients in the telecommunications, broadcasting, airport, financial, public transport and energy sectors.  His focus is on competition and regulatory issues, particularly in the application of industry-specific regulatory regimes to primary industry, electricity lines businesses, airports, telecommunications and broadcasting.  This has included advising on consultation obligations and statutory decision-making under those regimes. 

Nick has advised private sector clients on a number of regulatory reviews by the government and the Commerce Commission.  He has advised government departments on legislative reform, administrative law, and regulatory issues in insolvency law, health, rail and energy. In the energy sector, Nick's particular focus has been on the regulation of the gas and electricity lines businesses, and the transmission network.

In the commercial law area, Nick has advised Treasury and other government departments, and telecommunication industry and primary industry clients on contracts, acquisitions and consumer issues.  He has advised on import and export issues and anti-dumping duties.

Before joining Buddle Findlay, Nick worked for the Ministry of Commerce as a lawyer and policy adviser.  As a result, Nick has in-depth experience of public sector issues and legislative processes.
