Infrastructure projects

Buddle Findlay advises a number of local and national government bodies and utilities operators and owners and has considerable expertise in advising on construction contracting issues and the legal documentation required to implement large scale projects.  We have experience advising on electricity generation developments, pipeline projects, rail projects and roading projects, as well as commercial buildings.  We have also advised on agreements for the appointment of consultants engaged in such projects.

RECENT WORK

  • Advising Waitakere City Council, New Zealand Retail Property Group and Contact Energy on a number of multi-million dollar claims under the Public Works Act 1981
  • Advising Rodney District Council on all aspects of the Kumeu Floodway and Te Hana servicing projects
  • Advising Waimakariri District Council on legal aspects of the Ocean Outfall Project and ancillary works
  • Advising Metrowater and GHD on a number of construction disputes
  • Advising Rodney District Council on agreements for the construction of the Warkworth West Water Supply Pipeline
  • Advising the Crown on complex construction and funding arrangements with Auckland Regional Council, ARTNL and Toll Holdings for the $23 million double tracking of the western rail line in Auckland
  • Advising Contact Energy on all major generation development projects since Contact Energy was formed in 1997, including the tendering and turnkey procurement for the Otahuhu B thermal power station, Te Rapa co-generation plant and Wairakei Binary plant (a geothermal plant).  We are currently advising on further geothermal generation development
  • Advising on the construction contracts for electricity generation projects including geothermal power station projects at Mokai, Rotokawa, Ngawha and Kawerau, combined cycle geo plants at Otahuhu and Te Rapa and others
  • Advising a key stakeholder on procurement arrangements, mitigation measures and land rights between landowners, Territorial Authority and New Zealand Transport Agency for 22km eastern Taupo Arterial Bypass.  This project has included flexibility to improve design and save costs.  It has included PPP elements in a practical sense to get this key piece of regional infrastructure procured to the point where it can be accepted by NZTA
  • Advising on the Hutt Valley waste water project
  • Advising the shareholding councils of the ARTNL Group on the reorganisation of ARTNL’s assets and businesses
  • Advising Christchurch City Council on its Bus Exchange (construction and joint venture issues), Cathedral Junction (construction and joint venture issues) and Jade Stadium (ownership, construction, land and funding issues)
  • Advising Christchurch International Airport on its terminal redevelopment
  • Acting on risk reward tendering and procurement of manufacturing facility in Nelson.  The project was delivered on time to enable production to commence to meet seasonal needs, and performance KPIs achieved
  • Advising on tendering and procurement of construction of complex extensions to Wakefield Hospital
  • Acted on procurement of radar infrastructure and land rights for a chain of regional weather radar stations for New Zealand’s Metservice
  • Advising Central Plains Water on the consenting of a large irrigation scheme for central Canterbury
  • Advising Waimakariri District Council on its $35 million ocean outfall for North Canterbury
