Jennifer Caldwell

"Women need to be a bit braver sometimes in just leaping in and trusting they have the skills they need and that they have something to contribute".

We're incredibly proud of Buddle Findlay partner and former chair, Jennifer Caldwell, who recently shared with the Manatū Wāhine Ministry for Women, New Zealand, insights she has gained through her governance career.

Jennifer served four years on Buddle Findlay's board of management before stepping into the chair role for five years.

Alongside her work as a senior partner in our national environment and resource management team, Jennifer has led across professional and community organisations, bringing a calm, inclusive and strategic leadership style to the tables she sits at.  Her approach to governance is grounded not in titles, but in contribution, credibility and genuine commitment to purpose.

Jennifer’s advice for first time board members?  Be prepared.  Read your papers thoroughly, arrive with notes and thoughtful questions, and understand the risks in front of you.  But above all, listen.  Not just to respond, but to hear perspectives beyond your own.  Strong governance is built by creating environments where people feel safe to speak openly, challenge ideas, and contribute with confidence.
