Paul specialises in banking and finance with a focus on event-driven finance, complex and cross-border financing, syndicated lending and borrowing and portfolio acquisitions. 

Prior to joining Buddle Findlay, Paul worked at a leading law firm in London for over six years.  Paul advises both lenders and borrowers, within New Zealand and internationally.

on its financing of a real estate sponsor’s purchase of Italian loan notes issued by a global alternative investment firm

Advising a major Japanese bank

on its acquisition of a multi-billion British Pound acquisition of a German aviation finance business

Advising a global homewares company

on a complex refinancing of its Asia-Pacific loan facilities, which involved a three-layer secured debt structure

Advising Lloyds Bank

on the interpretation and implementation of 'ring-fencing' legislation, involving, broadly, splitting Lloyds Bank into a 'retail' bank and a 'corporate/investment' bank

Advising Lloyds Bank and the Royal Bank of Canada

as mandated lead arrangers on the financing of Melrose Industries acquisition of GKN.  This acquisition was the largest hostile takeover in the United Kingdom for almost a decade

Advising the banks

on a series of margin loans to companies controlled by an ultra-high net worth individual
