Overview

Buddle Findlay advises founders and entrepreneurs on the personal side of building a business, from separating personal and business assets in the early stages through to the tax and succession consequences of a sale, working alongside our corporate team on the business itself.

In the early stages, we help founders keep personal and business assets properly separated, so the risks of a growing business do not automatically become personal risks.

As a business succeeds, personal wealth grows with it. We help founders review and update their ownership structures, wills and trusts so they reflect a founder's changing personal circumstances, not just the state of the business.

When the time comes to sell, bring in family, or hand the business to the next generation, we advise on the personal side of that transition.  We work alongside our tax team on the tax consequences for the founder personally, so that planning starts well before a transaction is signed.
