The Fast Track Approvals Act 2024 (FTAA) aims to expedite the approval process for infrastructure projects in Aotearoa by offering a streamlined process for obtaining resource consents and approvals.
Buddle Findlay has acted for applicants across a portfolio of FTAA consenting applications, with a particular focus on renewable energy generation and climate resilience infrastructure – two of the areas the FTAA was specifically designed to accelerate. Our involvement has spanned wind, solar and hydro generation, as well as critical transport and other infrastructure, giving us a cross-sector view of how the FTAA is being applied in practice.
Renewable energy projects delivered
Wellington International Airport Southern Seawall (Wellington International Airport): A project to strengthen the Airport's resilience to coastal wave action and extreme weather events
Southland Wind Farm (Contact Energy): A new windfarm that will provide a significant new source of renewable electricity and reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources
Waitaha Hydro Scheme (Westpower Limited): A run-of-river hydro scheme on the West Coast that will supply energy to approximately 12,000 homes and support reductions in GHG emissions
Tekapo Power Scheme (Genesis Energy): Renewal of consents for a major South Island hydroelectric system, delivering significant contributions to secure electricity supply and emissions reduction targets
Foxton Solar Farm (Genesis Energy): We are acting for Genesis Energy on its application for a large-scale solar farm near Foxton, which would generate enough renewable electricity to power 47,000 homes annually.
Together, these matters demonstrate Buddle Findlay's ability to guide applicants through the FTAA process to deliver real progress on New Zealand's renewable energy and climate resilience objectives.
