Hugo specialises in public and administrative law, overseas investment, competition and consumer law, and product and industry regulation. He advises public and private sector clients on a range of public law and regulatory issues. His public law experience includes advising government agencies on their response to inquiries including the Royal Commissions of Inquiry into Abuse in State Care, and COVID-19 Lessons Learned.
He also assists clients with all aspects of the Overseas Investment Act, including consent applications, national security notifications, exemptions and investigations.
Hugo assists clients with a range of competition, consumer and regulatory issues, including supporting clients engaging with the Commerce Commission. He advises on a range of regulatory and product safety issues under the Fair Trading Act, Food Act and Medicines Act.
He also advises local government clients on their consultation and decision-making obligations, long-term planning and governance, including implementation of the Local Water Done Well reforms.
