Mathew specialises in environmental and resource management law and advises on a wide range of resource management, environmental and local government matters. 

He acts for private clients, infrastructure providers and local authorities on resource consents, policy statements, plans and designations.  He has advised residential and mixed use developers, water and wastewater providers, supermarket and mall operators as well as local authorities.

In addition in litigation and advisory work, Mathew has extensive experience in environmental due diligence and development contributions and rating matters.

Mathew currently acts for Auckland Council in relation to the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan on coastal, natural heritage, social infrastructure and public open space topics.

Prior to joining Buddle Findlay, Mathew worked for a boutique environmental law firm and another national law firm.

on the preparation of its Proposed Regional Land and Water Plan

in the Waikato region in respect of submissions on the proposed Waikato Regional Policy Statement

Acting for Watercare Services

in relation to applications for water takes for renewal and expansion of the municipal water supply at Warkworth, and obtaining designations and resource consents for the Hunua 4 bulk water main from Manukau to central Auckland

Acting for New Zealand Retail Property Group

in relation to the comprehensive development plan for the new sub-regional centre at Massey North, and resolution of plan changes relating to the Massey North centre, including Environment Court appeals and hearing
